Following the Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services call for submissions from individuals, businesses and community groups on their views regarding priorities for the 2024–25 Budget, the SOSFA Governing Committee in conjunction with the Directors of the Australian Fragility Fracture Foundation submitted a call for the Australian Government to fund two key programs to address fragility fractures in Australia:
Fund the design and implementation of Australian Clinical Care Standards for Secondary Fracture Prevention by the Australian Commission for Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC), following the recent success of such efforts in New Zealand and Ireland (Budget estimate ~ $300,000 per annum for 2 years)
Fund the Australian component of the Australian and New Zealand Fragility Fracture Registry (ANZFFR), that will benchmark current practice and promote quality improvement to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care for patients with ‘fragility’ fractures in all type of healthcare facilities across the nation. (Budget estimate ~ $500,000 per annum for 4 years)
